Abstract

The role of education as a promoting instrument of economic growth, welfare and social changes has been exhaustively debated in government programmes, in the parliament, at universities, in labor unions and entrepreneurial associations. This article provides an inventory of this current debate, which actually dates back to the 19 th century, in the works of the political economists such as John Suart Mill and Alfred Marshall.

José Flávio Pereira, UEM

Possui graduação em História pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1979) , mestrado em História pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1985) , doutorado em História Social pela Universidade de São Paulo (1994) e pos-doutorado pela Universidade de São Paulo (2000) . Atualmente é Professor Associado da Universidade Estadual de Maringá. Tem experiência na área de História , com ênfase em História do Brasil. Atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Cairu - José da Silva Lisboa - economia política Currículo Lattes
