Abstract

This paper presents a discussion of the sociology discipline, taught in in public high schools in Macapá, State of Amapá. To that end, it brings a historical context of the implementation of the teaching of sociology in Brazil, and a field research on the acceptance of the discipline in public high schools in the city of Macapá, capital of Amapá, in November 2007. The study was supported on the method of direct research, obtaining data from 150 students and teachers of the discipline of sociology. It was found that students have a good acceptance of the discipline, and that it is taught mostly by teachers trained in social sciences or education.
