Abstract

The interpretative strategies that highlight the mobilization of discursive memory (archive) in two oral narratives by an illiterate Brazilian woman are investigated. Focus shows the manner questions within the narrative chain emphasize discursive heterogeneity, or rather, types of checking addressed to the interlocutor, in which escapades from the story and strangeness caused by the other/Other’s virtual presence, with whom the narrator has to deal by the use of epistemic modalities, are employed. Some sequences of narratives, known as meta-enunciation glosses, were analyzed. These include narrator’s commentaries and checking that signalize the author’s method to sustain interlocution within the contradiction between the heterogeneity of the literature archive and the Other’s imaginary dimension based on dominant knowledge. Since the author-narrator is illiterate, it will also be demonstrated how the enunciation strategies are influenced by crossings of highly literate discourses. The use of epistemic modalities, foregrounded on the concepts of archive, the subject’s cleavage, French Discourse Analysis and Psychoanalysis, will be analyzed. Current paper analyzes fragments of discourse in which the use of epistemic modality appears under a meta-enunciation gloss. (CNPq).
