The polemic and the ethos construction in the political debate for the Maringá elections, 2004 - DOI: 10.4025/actascilangcult.v31i2.6785
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the polemic surrounding the ethos construction of the politicians involved in the runoff of the municipal elections of Maringá, in 2004. To accomplish these objectives, a corpus was chosen consisting of the televised political debate between the two candidates of the second round: João Ivo Caleffi (JIC/PT), representing the situation, and Sílvio Barros (SB/PP), representing the opposition. Based on the notions of polemic and the ethos proposed by the Maingueneau Discourse Analysis, the analysis of the controversial interdiscoursive movement of the two politicians showed that the ethos is constructed simultaneously to a process of disqualification of the opponent’s image.Downloads
