POLITICAL-PEDAGOGICAL CONCEPTION BY SAMPAIO DORIA (1883-1964) AND THE DEMOCRATIZATION OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOL
Abstract
This article analyses the political-pedagogical project of Sampaio Doria (1883-1964), identifying his grounds and objectives longed for with the implementation of public school in São Paulo in the 20th Century early decades. With the support off historical materialism, through the intrinsic articulation between liberal political conceptions and pedagogical propositions by the author as assumptions, his work and contributions in the period are examined. Sampaio Doria advocated for an intellectual, moral, professional, economic, physical and civic education for everyone, based on the analytical intuition method as a regulation mechanism of social issues and society modernization. That was the sense of the Education Reform in São Paulo he proposed in 1920 and his work as teacher and as jurist, which also embraced the struggle for the democracy, prosperity and the social order. Retaking his thoughts allows us unveil the functions attributed to the Brazilian public school in its origins.
