Editorial Policy on Article Processing Charges (APC) for the Journal of Physical Education

The Journal of Physical Education is an academic journal maintained by a public university, committed to the principles of Open Science and aimed at promoting free and open access to scientific knowledge. Currently, the Journal of Physical Education adopts the Gold Open Access model, where all articles are made freely available to readers, but publication fees (APCs) may be charged to authors.

Commitment to Open Science and Goal of Diamond Open Access

Our journal is firmly committed to Open Science, promoting transparency, reproducibility, and accessibility of research results. Although we currently follow the Gold Open Access model, our future goal is to adopt the Diamond Open Access model. This model will ensure that both submission and access to articles are free for authors and readers.

Article Processing Charges (APC)

In the current Gold Open Access model, we charge publication fees (APCs) to cover the costs associated with the production and maintenance of the journal. These costs include:

XML Article Markup: Conversion of articles to XML format, ensuring interoperability and effective dissemination of scientific content.
DOI Assignment Costs: Assignment of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to articles, ensuring their traceability and long-term accessibility.
Plagiarism Detection Mechanisms: Implementation of advanced plagiarism detection tools to maintain academic integrity and originality of published works.
Association with Editorial Entities: Affiliation of the journal with academic editorial associations, both in Brazil and abroad, promoting integration and international recognition of our work.

APC Charges

For authors with institutional affiliation in Brazil: The APC is 400 BRL.
For authors from other countries: The APC is 80 USD.
Reviewer Exemption: Submissions with authors who have provided at least 2 reviews in the 12 months prior to the submission date will be exempt from APC.
Discounts for Authors from Low and Middle-Low Income Countries: Submissions with the majority of authors affiliated with institutions in low-income and middle-low-income countries, as classified by the World Bank, will receive a 50% and 40% reduction in the APC, respectively.
Transition to Diamond Open Access

Our goal is to eliminate publication fees (APCs) and offer the Diamond Open Access model, where both submission and access to articles are free. To achieve this goal, we seek to obtain funding from granting agencies, government grants, and strategic partnerships that enable the financial sustainability of the journal without burdening the authors.

Financial Sustainability

The transition to the Diamond Open Access model depends on obtaining adequate funding to cover the production and maintenance costs mentioned. We are committed to actively seeking these funding sources to ensure we can fulfill our commitment to broad and unrestricted dissemination of knowledge.
