Applicability of Physical Education to 1º to 4º grades of elementary school in private establishments of teaching in the town of Maringá

Abstract

The aim of present study was to verify whether private schools in Maringá are suppying physical education classes pupils of 1st to 4th grade of elementary school according to the present legislation. A mixed questionnaire comprising 33 questions was the instrument used to conduct the study. It was found that in 87,5% of the instutions, physical education is included in their global plans and do supply physical education activities, being only one class per week in 62,5% of the schools and two classes weekly in the remaining 37,5%. The time allocated to physical education classes are ministered by student teachers; 12,5% by teachers who are not licensed and in 12,5% classes are ministered by teachers graduated in physical education. From the schools studied, 87,5% provide medical examination for its pupils in the beginning of therm and 12,5% do not. It was found that none of the instutions studied is obeying the legislation in vigour.
