Abstract
The participation of adolescents in high-performance sports activities can cause changes in these population’s biological and behavioral aspects related to health and quality of life (QL). Thus, this study aimed to assess the relationship between QL and anthropometric parameters in young athletes. The study was carried out in the city of Ponta Grossa, Parana, with 75 athletes (39 male). Were collected: Body mass and height data in order to calculate the Body Mass Index (BMI), waist circumference (WC) and QL (through the WHOQOL-Bref). For statistical analysis the Mann-Whitney U test and Spearman’s correlation were applied. Significant differences were found for boys in the BMI values (p=0.017), WC (p=0.009) and overall QL (p=0.040), besides to the psychological (p=0.002) and the environment (p=0.048) domains. The correlations showed a positive relationship for BMI (r=0.536; p=0.001) and WC (r=0.394; p=0.017) concerning the girls’ QL. It was concluded that the boys had higher values for the overall QL when compared to girls and that the anthropometric variables were correlated directly with the QL for girls.Downloads
