Abstract

In this study the city is seen as an object of analysis and theme for reflection. In this perspective we seek to understand how the Farroupilha Park became a leisure space in the city of Porto Alegre. In order to do that we made a historical research from printed sources such as maps and official documents, as well as the available literature on the History of Porto Alegre and the Farroupilha Park. The study showed what changed and what persisted in the park, allowing us to understand how this place – former useless mire – became what it is today: an important leisure area that “belongs to the city”
