Abstract

The text evidences the competition around the material organization of an eighteen century feminine school, through the analyses of the officials positions of the Inspetoria Geral de Instrução de São Paulo and of the teacher from the specialty of the feminine sex’s first letters from Vila de Capivari. The production of the constituent aspects of the device of the simultaneous transmission of education is argued from the school material culture’s boarding, in the confrontation between the materials (furniture and utensils) defined as necessary to the schools of first letters’s use (in the 50’s of the XIX century) and, by another side, the material request proposed by the teacher. The possible use and arrangements of the materials on the functioning of this school’s space seems to transform it, conferring new meanings to it, at the same time that delineates the contours of a way of school’s organization.
