Teachers from the State of Santa Catarina: reasons for choosing and remaining in the profession
Abstract
This paper analyzes, as from the development of the project Teaching memory and school justice, some reasons why retired school teachers from the State of Santa Catarina have chosen and remained in their professions. The timeframe of the analysis ranges from the mid-1950s to the end of the 60s. We believe that understanding the reasons that encouraged those teachers to choose and persevere in teaching and the issues that marked their careers can contribute to the understanding of the teaching career perspectives, considering the history and the memory of school teachers from the State of Santa Catarina, not only per se, but also as constituents of a broader and more complex field that combines history and sociology of education.
