Being Stella: a study about the woman’s role and female education in Juiz de Fora city in the beginning of the 20th century

Abstract

This article deals with the analysis of available sources that were got from Stella Matutina School Library, referring to the first years of the institution in Juiz de Fora – Minas Gerais State. It concentrates itself to have relationship between the local historical conjuncture, and the Brazilian historical conjuncture in the beginning of the 20th century as well as the social part, appropriate and practiced by women and men at that time. The purpose is to present as the normalistas as nun-teacher like social elements integrated into a religious educational process that wasn’t based only in archaics values and practices. The purpose is present these women to take parte in an active interest, inside the limits of their possibilities, the conception’s modernization of education in vogue.
