Abstract

The study falls within the perspective of school culture, problematizing school architecture as a historical-educational patrimony. It analyzes the case of Aula Isolada Campos da Redenção, constructed in 1907, in the city of Porto Alegre/RS, and the transformations of the building throughout its history, until the installation of the House of City Councils, in 2015. It was consulted an ample documentary corpus, including: reports of the Direction of Public Instruction and Public Works of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, newspapers, processes, photographs, projects and floor plants. It is evidenced that the construction is inventoried as cultural patrimony by the City Hall of Porto Alegre, but a series of public policies is necessary for recovery of the space, involving actions that articulate history and the memory of the education institution that worked in that location.
