The production of different meanings of being a teacher in Rio Grande do Sul (1940-1960)

Abstract

Up from the second half of the 1930s, the educative system has become an object of reforms in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This process reached appearing conditions in the teaching nationalization, political movement that produced spaces in which it was possible for the modernization speech and a better organization in the State government took place in the execution of an educational reform that happened in a thorough, intense and deep way. Such reform was inserted in a context of reorganization and rationalization of public education services, in which the population and the education emerged as government’s problems. In this context, speeches became truths, produced meanings about education and helped the institution of different meanings on what being a teacher is, as time went on.
