Abstract

Discussions on the historical and analytical vitality of the concept of class have been the object of attention of important Marxist theoreticians. Unfinished notes by Karl Marx on a systematic notion of class in “Capital” objectively influence the scope and intensity of these debates. This article aims to briefly discuss two key authors of the Marxist tradition: Edward Thompson and Ricardo Antunes. Both authors developed, at different historical times, studies on the composition, manner of being and acting of class. The writings of these thinkers point to some important crossroads on the path trod to build a sense of class for the Marxist tradition.
