Abstract

This article analyzed the discursive construction of a short story by Lygia Fagundes Telles anchored in the Stylistic of Enunciation. Results showed that the speech styles of the story do not correspond to the existing theories. Also, the miscellany of styles caused a paradox in the reception: it provided a textual speed which the reader is not able not follow, thus making the plot difficult to apprehend. In this way, the sense of confusion caused in the reader brightly expresses the psychological character of the story.
