Students hate the contents of gymnastics in the physical education classes: reasons and alternatives - doi: 10.4025/reveducfis.v21i2.7887
Abstract
This study aimed to identify which content of Physical Education (PE) that scholars hated and to know their motives. 242 boys and 293 girls in 7th grade, average age of 13.6 years were studied, belonging from 31 schools of the state network from the city of Pelotas with daytime PE. In a descriptive study, a standardized questionnaire with a listing of traditional PE content was used. A Likert type scale was used with the following options: "I Never Practiced," "I Like a Lot," "I Like", "I am Indifferent", "I Dislike," "I Hate" and space for writing. The scholars marked "I Dislike" and "I hate" in the following gymnastic content’s: stretching (27.6%), curl-ups and push-ups (26.6%) and running (25.0%) and reported "Never Practice" for curl-ups and push-ups (44.5%), running (40.2%) and stretching (17.7%). The reasons for hating school gymnastic (SG) were physical discomfort (49.7%) and educational problems (34.5%). It is believed that this aversion is linked to SG educational issues and alternatives to overcome this problem are indicated.Downloads
