Increasing personal understandings of movement for improved performance: an application of dynamic systems theory
Abstract
As greater emphasis is placed on making physical activity part of a healthy lifestyle, more people are becoming aware of this essential component and are eager to participate. To accommodate this need, movement professionals must have the program skills that help learners meet their needs. It would seem that viable alternative to conventional training methods would be to draw focus of the learner inward so that more meaningful movements may be gained. Thus, combining a keen awareness with systematic programming approaches may provide a comprehensive way to unite these two aspects of training. A more complete activity training program can be offered though adoption of a Dynamic Systems view of body. Considering movement in this way requires us to look at the body as a whole and not as single components. In this light, a ‘system’ extends to all things affecting its performance including instruction.Downloads
