Metabolic transition and lactate minimum test in rats: new proposal of effort quantification
Abstract
The progressive part of lactate minimum test (LMT) begins after induction of metabolic acidosis, followed by resting, aiming to reach the peak of lactate [LACpeak], to achieve the “U” shape curve. However, [LACpeak] is not inserted into the calculations. The present study aimed to suggest a new proposal of determination of metabolic transition (MT) by LMT, or either, to evaluate the curve [LAC] versus time of exercise (A) instead of [LAC] versus exercise intensity (B), including the [LACpeak] value. Wistar rats, adults (90 days) and non-exercised ones were evaluated by LMT for determination of minimum blood lactate (MBL). The MBL values, when analyzed the curve (A), did not show difference if compared with the values obtained by curve (B). There was not difference between exercise loads obtained in both curves. We suggest, then, a potential application of the new proposal to estimate the MBL in rats.Downloads
