A critical analysis of two assumptions about aggression in sports
Abstract
The aim of works is to make a critical analysis of two presuppositions on aggression in sport: a) "All sport is aggression" and b) "Sport serves a cathartic funcion". Both presuppositions turn out to be inadequate. The basic argument to reject the first presupposition is built an analysis of an adequate definition of the term "aggression in sport". An analysis of the presupposition on the catharic function of sport shows that it is sens less to maintain this presupposition. Neither results of empirical studies nor teoretical beliefs are in favour of the thesis on the cathartic function of sport.Downloads
