Administration of physical education: the pursuit of theoretical reference

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to search for data that represented the necessary background of the physical education professional that would enable him to act as administrator of Physical Education. The study was a descriptive research to the nature of the subject dealt with and by the tecniques applied in data collecting. This study had as its main objective reseach the people working at the Physical Education Dept. (DEF) at Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM), their work, their performance and their activities in the Physical Education and Sports Pratice during the 2nd semester of 1988. This study covered forty-four professionals . The method applied was a not-structured interview in which we tried to get richer and clearer answer. The reports were placed under categories, classified and organized in accordance with the necessary information for the study. Based on analisys and discussion of the results obtained, it was possible to get to the following conclusion: the knowledge of the professionals of Physical Education and Sports Pratice from UEM concerning administration was basically about organizing sports competition, physical education rules. Through their working experience, it was observed that their activities are not only restricted to the teaching of Physical Education but also comprise different administrative activities. The comparison beteween the suggested knowlegde as important and the problems in the administration of the department showed that there is a relation between the two areas. It was also possible to determine the contribution of the Administration Science in the administrative performance of the Physical Education professionals trhought the understanding of planning, organizing, direction and control which envolves the administrative process. Other types of knowledge were considered important for the Physical Education administrators in accordance with the teacher’s suggestions and contents analysis of Physical Education Organization and Administration programme from Physical Education course at UEM.

Christi Noriko Sonoo, UEM
Graduada em Educação Física pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá (1976), mestre em Ciência do Movimento Humano pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (1990) e doutora em Filosofia e Ciência da Educação pela Universidad de Barcelona (1999). Atualmente é professor associado da Universidade Estadual de Maringá e atua no curso de graduação e pós-graduação. Tem experiência na área de Educação Física, com ênfase em Estudo da Liderança, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: liderança, desempenho esportivo, qualidade de vida Currículo Lattes
