Abstract
The present study aims to delineate the profile of the Metabolic Syndrome components and to correlate the anthropometric variables to the arterial pressure in preadolescents with abdominal obesity, considering age and sex. The sample was composed by 400 preadolescents whom were submitted to the evaluation of abdominal circumference, verification of the blood pressure and biochemical exams. The results indicated the occurrence of 2 to 4 metabolic syndrome components in 64.25% of the preadolescents. Of the 400 preadolescents, 152 bear the Metabolic Syndrome. There was no difference in the distribution of boys and girls in the quantity of components, x²(3) =1.45; p=0.69, nor in the distribution among the ages, x²(12) = 16.31; p=0.18. The study concluded that 64.25% of the preadolescents presented 2 to 4 components of the Metabolic Syndrome, with no difference between gender and ages. The abdominal circumference showed a moderate correlation with the body mass and blood pressure.Downloads
