Abstract

The main goal of this article is to take some annotations about the performance of the Rio Grande do Sul State Teachers Association and the Catholic Teachers and Social Culture Association, which used to act in the city of Pelotas since the 1930’s, in the sense of their influence on the teaching force. The temporal design tries to cover the trajectories of these associations from the beginning. The written sources are book of meeting records and registers, and three journals, which uninterruptedly circulated in that period. It concludes that those associations had a relevant role in terms of consolidating teaching profession, had a strong representation, and had a significant contribution to improve teachers prestigious locally.
