Presentation and Justification

 This dossier proposes to bring together writings, the result of research in which the history of education is thought of in connection with school material culture. Considering that the field of History of Education already widely recognizes that the material dimension of school and educational life integrates culture and is a source for thorough production of knowledge about cultural history, we look forward to receiving manuscripts from researchers from universities throughout Brazil and interlocutors from abroad, in order to encourage the expansion of dialogues between research and ideas and the dissemination of what is being organized, thought and produced in the territory of the school’s materiality.

Profile of expected contributions

The topic in focus is part of the research efforts of different research groups and, in this sense, we hope to receive contributions representing the wide international, national, and regional diversity. Such contributions should interface with the following thematic axes:

- History of education and theoretical andmethodological approaches to school material culture;

- History of childhood and materialities;

- History of education, material culture, technologies and sensory history;

- History of education, circulation of knowledge and material provision;

- History of education, material culture, economic history;

- History of education, material culture, patrimonialization and school archeology;

- History of education, material culture and teaching practices;

- History of education, school material culture and school architecture;

- History of education, school material culture and handicrafts;

- History of education, material culture and visual culture;

- History, materialities and schooling processes in the different educational stages;

- History of education, materialities, pedagogical prints, books and journals;

- History of education, school culture, rites and materialities;

- History of education and the body, hygiene and materialities;

- History of science teaching, museums and materialities;

Deadlines

  1. Launch of the public notice – 03/29/2022.
  2. The articles to compose the dossier must be submitted in the period from 05/01/2022 to 08/31/2022.
  3. Only manuscripts sent until 08/31/2022 will be evaluated for this topic. Texts sent after the deadline set in this public notice may be evaluated in the ongoing submission of the Journal.

Submission of articles

  1. The submission of the article must be done individually, through registration in the Journal <http://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/rbhe/login>.
  2. Articles must strictly comply with article submission guidelines of RBHE. The guidelines for authors are available at <http://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/rbhe/about/submissions>. Non-standard manuscripts will be automatically rejected.
  3. The author responsible for sending the article will include in the Note to the Editor (a constant item during the submission process) the information: article referring to the thematic Dossier “History of education and materialities”.
  4. Articles must be original and unpublished, and their simultaneous submission in another journal is not allowed. Each author can only submit only one manuscript for this call.

On the proposing authors

  1. Proponents must be professors and researchers from national or foreign higher education institutions with recognized academic competence in the thematic area covered by the Dossier and have their Lattes curricula updated, as well as the ORCID record.
  2. The author responsible for sending the article must include as a Supplementary Document (a constant item during the submission process) a cover sheet with, in addition to the title of the article, the complete data of all authors in the following order: full name, complete institutional affiliation (in full and abbreviated), last training, city, state, e-mail address, mini curriculum and ORCID.

Evaluation and review of articles

The articles will individually go through the following evaluation process:

  • Analysis regarding the form: at this stage, articles will be submitted to the reading by the dossier organizers and evaluated as to their adherence to the general criteria of the Revista Brasileira de História da Educação and to the rules for submission available at: <http://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/rbhe/about/submissions>. If they do not meet the requirements, we will return articles that:

- Solely represent a literature review;

- Notably represent a simple part of a dissertation or thesis, without proper adaptation;

- Are presented as a research project or research report;

- Do not present an in-depth analysis of the theme they propose to discuss;

- Contain excessive writing errors as well as text structuring errors, in order to make understanding difficult;

- Are merely descriptive and without analysis of the problem addressed;

- Do not present the form of a scientific and/or academic article;

- Do not meet the guidelines of the Revista Brasileira de História da Educação available at: <http://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/rbhe/about/submissions>.

These articles will be returned to the authors with suggestion of revision and new submission, and can be evaluated for the ongoing demand of the journal and no longer for this dossier.

  • Blind peer review on merit:

In this second stage, the journal sends the article, without author identification, for evaluation by two referees in the thematic area (members of the Editorial Board or ad hoc referees). They can fully accept the article, request revisions or reject it. These decisions are made through a descriptive opinion. When there are two positive opinions, the article goes to the next stage. When one or two referees request a revision, the article is returned to the author for adjustments. When the author resubmits the reformulated text, it is reevaluated, and goes to the final stage.

  • Revision and adherence of the article to the RBHE guidelines:

In this last stage, the article is subjected to a language review and normalization. If necessary, the article is sent to the author for corrections and adjustments, to finally be sent for publication.

On the articles that will make up the dossier

The dossier to be published will include an array of authors, institutions and regions in the country and abroad. It will be composed of a minimum of 06 and a maximum of 12 articles. Approved articles, which do not adhere to the scope of the dossier, may be published in later issues as part of the ongoing submission of the Journal, if the authors so desire.

On the internationalization policy

Preferably, 20% articles must be by foreign authors not based in Brazil. At least 50% approved articles must have a version in one of the official languages of the RBHE: English, Spanish or French.
