Study of the Pedagogical project of the Free Teaching Institution. Normalista Females’ home in Granada
Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the Institución Libre de Enseñanza (Free Teaching Institution) pedagogical project from a historical and socio-educational perspective and precisely in the Residencia de Señoritas Normalistas (Hall of Residence for Female Teacher Trainees) in Granada. The methodology followed aims to look into the historical context to carry out a socio-historical study and the comparison of documents to rebuild the facts, trying to describe and explain them. Starting from the importance of the thinking of the Residencia de Señoritas in Madrid, established by María de Maeztu, its educational value and its pedagogical project, we have developed a comparative study between the former and the Residencia de Señoritas Normalistas in Granada, which was set up by Mr. Agustín Escribano, taking into account not only the unpublished data that have been gathered, but also the unknown photographic resources, providing evidence of the similitudes regarding facilities, internal organization and so on; in the case of the Hall of Residence in Granada widened the educational possibilities and horizons of young students from Andalucía who had scarce resources.
