Abstract

This paper discusses the political measures related to the pedagogy adopted by State governments in Santa Catarina, which intended to nationalize different ethnic groups during the period between the Orestes Guimarães reformation in 1911 and World War I. The official measures implied a clear position of the State facing ethnic and cultural diversity in the areas occupied by immigrants in order to homogenize a place characterized by practices that showed cultural differences.
