Undergraduate teaching and university conceptions in the Fernando de Azevedo’s Inquérito de 1926

Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze the thematic that envolves the undergraduate teaching in inquiry occurred in 1926 through the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, which Fernando de Azevedo was professionally associated. The referred inquiry expresses a diagnostic about the public education in São Paulo’s state, with the following sections a) primary teaching and secondary teaching b) both technical and professional teaching and finally c) secondary and undergraduate teaching. The main purpose is to structure the basic elements that directed the discussions and the proposals related to the idea of an university and an undergraduate teaching, such as Fernando de Azevedo and other eight persons that built the referred inquiry. The content that was developed by this article contains some criticizes to the educational reforms since then, the teacher’s formation, high classes’ formation, the university as a center formation and irradiation to the nationality and the teaching and the researching.
