Abstract

This work aims at arguing the potentiality of some notions in the thought of English historian Edward Palmer Thompson for the increments of Brazilian historical studies in education. Based on the assumption that little is know about this historian’s production in the scope of education history, it tries to highlight some possibilities of his thought for handling questions frequently studied by education historians. It takes as examples of Thompson’s contributions the notions of experience and culture, as well as it illustrates these notion’s possibilities by referring to questions concerning curriculum, school cultures and body education. These subjects have been frequently visited by historians of Brazilian education and Thompson’s work allows them to be understood beyond the historiographic models prevailing in Brazilian historiography.
