Abstract

The project of writing about art and religion is centered in Carlos
Oswald (1882-1971), an artist who has been perpetuated by its
uniqueness and historical position in the context of the arts,
education and religion. This artist and his work – focusing here
on this text in the field of sacred art - compose the theme of the
present study of art and religion. Included in the work here
presented are the ties woven between the work of the artist and
the Catholic Church in the early decades of the twentieth
century. From the life story of Carlos Oswald, which stood out
the formative years, it was sought to understand the meaning of
his artwork in the formation of a Catholic orientation on the
relationship between religious art, culture and education in
Brazil.
