An inquiry on the federalisation of the University of Paraná (1950)

Abstract

This article aims at reconstituting some facets of the debate on the federalisation of the University of Parana, made known by the newspaper Gazeta do Povo between the end of 1949 and end of 1950. Thus, it deals with the coverage done by the press when the University was launched and the federalisation became official but it mainly deals with the period of the organization of the inquiry about the nationalization of  higher education in Paraná. Published in the Gazeta do Povo between the months of January and February 1950, this inquiry mobilized the academic and political community in the State, in the attempt to establish a homogeneous view of the federalisation process of the University of Paraná. In view of the concept of the intellectual as an organizer of culture as proposed by Antonio Gramsci, one can affirm that the federalization of the University had the participation of the academic community and political groups. In addition, the intervention in the press created a collective representation about this process by mobilizing teachers, students and leaderships from other areas of society
