Abstract

This text describes a study of the journal A Biologia Educacional (Educational Biology) (1938–1941), created by students of the Padre Anchieta Normal School with the collaboration of specialists and associated to the discipline of Educational Biology. The objective is to investigate how that vehicle engendered discourses about the above-mentioned discipline, and about the process of teacher education and work, helping to set up parameters for the professional cultures of that time. The analyses indicate that the journal was an instrument of motivation and exercitation of students, in the sense described by Chervel, and that it served as a means of production of the discipline and the profession, associated to innovative, caregiving, and science-based practices.
