Abstract

The analysis of Abílio César Borges intellectual trajectory proposed here intends to relate his trajectory to educational context at the time of Dom Pedro II’s reign in Brazil. Sometimes associated to the uppish figure of Aristarco by Raul Pompeia on his novel O Ateneu, others thought as a misunderstood innovator, rarely Borges is studied as a participant of the intellectual and political debates running that time. The main intention of this paper, underlining Borges relations with different actors, is to allocate his presence on a common political debate. The innovations proposed and operated by him were built, we argue, based on a pedagogical referential here called as pedagogical repertoire, whose results were also political ones.
