This article discusses Talcott Parsons's main co ntributions for the contemporary sociological thought, emphasizing the significant differences between structural -functionalism and the European classical approaches of the XIX century. The aim is to argue that, differently from the classical functionalist approaches, such as the one of Emile Durkheim, the parsonian structural - functionalism sociology introduces an important voluntarist element that breaks the rigid determination of the structure upon the individualities in the constitution of the social.Downloads
