Abstract

The establishment of a conservative creed in Brazil included convergent and divergent propositions in its process. This article will deal exclusively with the divergences in the form of devising the social change process concerning its (im)possibilities. The stances of Perdigão Malheiros, Tavares Bastos, Joaquim Nabuco, Sílvio Romero, Alberto Torres, Oliveira Vianna and Gilberto Freyre explain divergent aspects that reveal the nonexistence of a monolithic block of interpretations and actions constituent of the conservative creed.
