Abstract

Although researches on lingua franca are at early stages in Brazil, there has been a growing interest on this perspective. In this paper, we aim at discussing the legitimate doubts raised by those engaged in the discussion of the distinctions between English as a foreign language and English as lingua franca. We stress the challenges for teacher education courses and present some parameters to be taken into account in teacher education courses including such status.
