The “Manifesto dos Pioneiros (Manifest of Pioneers) of 1932 and the Brazilian university culture: reasons and passions

Abstract

This work analyses the issues higher education and university in the “Manifesto dos Pioneiros da Educação Nova” (Manifest of Pioneers of New Education, published in 1932, by the methods of new rhetoric suggested in Treatise of argumentation by Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca. In order to reach this objective, the article shows the strategies that were employed to establish the document “The reconstruction of education in Brazil” as a manifest, including the publication of a book organized by Fernando de Azevedo, in which the Brazilian university culture is discussed.
