Abstract

The objective of this paper is to reflect on the problematic of teacher professionalization, in the context of the 1930s, concentrating on the Catholic movement. It is assumed that this movement also gave a great deal of significance to this question. In the same direction as other studies that analyse the educational debates of this period, specifically the interface between the approaches expressed by the “New School” group and Catholic educators, the paper focuses on representations around the notions of teaching, the teaching profession and being a teacher, produced and disseminated by institutions and intellectuals and which aquired importance in the Catholic renovation movement.
