Abstract

In this work, I intend to raise the debate on the Brazilian educational historiography, in respect to the 1834 Additional Act document, defining the empire’s elementary political instructions. For the majority of the historians, decentralization fragmented already existing, sparing projects and resources, contributing to the proliferation of contradictory laws, and in practice, dismissing elementary instruction in imperial Brazil. The research I have been developing has demonstrated the need to review historiography statements. For this reason, classic and resent works created by a significant number of education historians, and positions defended by renowned intellectuals of the XIX century was taken as analysis parameter.
