The Revista de Educação in João Punaro Bley’s government and the Physical Education schooling in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil (1934-1937)
Abstract
In this study, we analyze the circulation process of pedagogical patterns in the thirties, which mold a new school culture in the lands of Espírito Santo state. The “Revista de Educação” (Journal of Education) was our main research source, a print produced in the city of Vitória within 1934 and 1937 as a way to externalize the educational policy of federal intervenor João Punaro Bley. It deals with the concept of struggles of representation (CHARTIER,1990) in order to analyze the investment made in that period for the constitution of Physical Education as a school subject. The research indicates that, in Bley’s reform, great emphasis was given to Physical Education, once it aimed to provide the fortification of the youth and make young people of that time capable for the expected industrialization to be developed in the state of Espírito Santo.Downloads
