Teaching, research and democratic construction: Rui Grácios and Rogerio Fernandes contributions
Abstract
The article analyses the careers and the political and intellectual
contributions of two Portuguese educators - Rui Grácio and
Rogério Fernandes - to teaching, research and democratic
construction. At first, we consider their ideas and actions
regarding teacher’s training. Following, we explore the
conceptions about the role of educational history in Portuguese
historical interpretations. Finally, we identify the sources and
themes that will result in a Luso-Brazilian educational history. We
concluded that all of them contributed to define the educational
sciences and to disseminate models of teachers’ training that
combine educational research and political commitments in the
process of democratic construction of Portuguese school.
