School sanitary inspection and childhood education in the work of Arthur Moncorvo Filho, M.D.
Abstract
This article reflects on the concepts that mobilized the creation
of the School Sanitary Inspection Service designed by the
physician Arthur Moncorvo Filho, in the administration of Mayor
Serzedello Corrêa, in Distrito Federal in 1910. The purpose of
the Service was to expand the field of medical practice toward
childhood, disseminating hygienic precepts to more people in
society at that time. Thinking of how medical knowledge gave
perspective to school and social subjects, contributes to the
understanding of how the medical and educational knowledge
established interfaces and profiles, which conditioned the
invention of the place of normal and abnormal children in
school, in the first decades of the republic in Brazil.
