Abstract

The purpose of this article is to understand the trajectory of two faculties created in Sergipe, in the 1920s, and had short duration. In this period, the State of Sergipe had an important process of modernization undertaken by the state government through urban reforms and the establishment of cultural and educational institutions. This modernization process has become more effective in the government of Graccho Cardoso (1922-1926), who sought to carry out numerous works in every corner of Sergipe, in an attempt to create a new image for the state linked to his name. Among these works, stand out the faculties of law Tobias Barretoand Pharmacy and Dentistry Anibal Freire. Such institutions of higher education were ephemeral and troubled life with extinction enacted even before the formation of their first classes.
