Abstract

In this study, we analyze the presence of Nanette and Boné Preto in school using as main source the forms of the Ortofrenia and Mental Hygiene Section published by Arthur Ramos in the book A criança problema. Based on the ideas of Roberto da Matta, we investigated the ways school perceives children and some attitudes of Nanette and Boné Preto in school. In this article, we intend to apprehend some of the dimensions of the children and juvenile culture in the school environment. The concern with the issue of children’s school culture has arisen in the context of a confluence between history and anthropology studies. The discussion includes a concern with the history of social types and patterns of school behavior. Finally, the study draws attention to some of the dimensions of the Brazilian public education in the 1930s.
