Cultural history and history of education in the portuguese America
Abstract
It is necessary to stimulate the discussion of investigation of the history of education in the Portuguese America. The advance and innovation of the study of Brazilian education in the colonial time imply the investigation of educational processes and practices that go beyond the action of the State or of the Church, and that favor such practices in the day-to-day life of the colonial Brazilian society, involving apprenticeships and cultural exchanges about techniques, trades, and knowledges derived from several cultural origins that could be found here. This does not mean quitting looking at them in the whole set of official initiatives for the implementation of schooling, but rather attempting to understand them in the context of a miscegenated society.
