Abstract

The book History of Education and Pedagogy by Lorenzo
Luzuriaga has the distinction of being a book published in
America but written by a European. From this point emerges
our interest in analyzing the visions of ‘America’ that underlie
this book, thus understanding how they relate to the ‘history of
education’ on this continent. However, it is necessary to
contextualize this text, originally published in Argentina. On
the one hand, in relation to the author and his career as an
intellectual, college professor, author and editor of numerous
books; on the other hand, in relation to the historiography of
education in Argentina. We investigate the characteristics of
his work and then get into the visions that the author
introduces about America, focusing on the words he used to
name the continent throughout the book
