Mathematization of pedagogy: changes in school culture

Abstract

The mathematization of pedagogy, or rather, the study of processes and dynamics developed in school routine so that it responds to a new pedagogy, namely, scientific pedagogy, is analyzed. The new pedagogy means a reduction to mathematics of the dynamics that conduct school work. An important issue is at stake: How did the school mathematized pedagogy? Theoretical and methodological tools from Cultural History are employed for the interpretation of the sources. Among other sources, a document prepared by one of the schools of reference in the state of São Paulo in the 1930s is analyzed
