Preferred argument structure in oral and written Portuguese
Abstract
The existence of a preferred argument structure (PAS) in oral and written Portuguese in a corpus constituted by narratives, dissertations and interviews is examined in this study. PAS is a highly preferred pattern of using the verb direct arguments (intransitive subjects, transitive subject-A and object-O), which is constituted by grammatical (one lexical argument per clause and nonlexical A) and pragmatic (one new argument per clause and nonnew A) restrictions.Downloads
