Ethical Principles

Declaration of Ethics and Best Practices in Publication

Acta Scientiarum. Education Journal is configured as a vehicle for scientific dissemination, to promote the development of research aimed at the field of education within ethical standards appropriate to scientific publications. Ethics as a premise for conducting scientific dissemination goes beyond the limits of publications and also denotes the understanding of science and education as a means of maintaining and improving social life. The concern with these aspects is part of the journal's mission, in making the registration and preservation of knowledge viable. To this end, we constantly seek to improve practices to ensure the reliability of the process and avoid plagiarism and fraud, having as main reference the principles established by COPE (Committee of Publications Ethics). These recommendations have been developed since 1997 to provide support, guidance, and instruction to editors who aim to adopt these practices in their journals. Both in the Code of conduct and best practice guidelines for journal editors and in the Core Practices of 2017, which replaced the previous document, COPE offers a set of substantial guidelines applicable to academic literature. Observance of the COPE approach enabled the adoption of means and instruments for registering procedures, evaluating submissions, as well as the stages of the publication process. The subjects involved in the publication process - authors, editors, editorial council, scientific council, ad hoc reviewers, librarians, and technicians - must be attentive to practices related to allegations of misconduct; interest conflicts; authorship and contribution; intellectual property; reproducibility data; peer review; and ethical supervision. Another important aspect to be constantly improved is the means of communication, both during the submission and evaluation process, as well as post-publication so that corrections, resources, complaints, and discussions are encouraged suitably and transparently.
